What is Full Mouth Reconstruction?

Anyone suffering with many missing teeth, extremely worn teeth, and a history of tooth decay may require multiple restorations. When this is the case, the procedure is called Full Mouth Reconstruction or Full Mouth Restoration. Full mouth restoration offers beautiful, long lasting results for those patients with multiple tooth involvement in the front and back of the mouth.

What Can Full Mouth Restoration Do For Me?

  • Full mouth restoration uses neuromuscular and cosmetic dentistry to achieve the desired results.
  • A TENS machine offers low level electrical impulses to relieve symptoms and restore the bite, exercising the jaw muscles and releasing lactic acid buildup from overusing your jaw muscle in the wrong position.
  • The Myotronics K7 measures jaw muscle function when stressed and relaxed.
  • X-rays measure jaw-to-skull ratio and help your dentist with a diagnosis.
  • Digital imaging technology shows you beforehand how beautiful your new smile will look.

How Will I Feel When Full Mouth Reconstruction is Complete?

Patients using orthotics to reposition their bite will visit their dentist regularly for up to 1 year. The purpose of the orthotic is to gently and slowly return the bite to its natural position, relieving stress on the jaw muscles. Other dental restorations that may be used  to help the patient require varying degrees of mild recovery. For example, the gums may be tender for several days, but this can be successfully alleviated with over the counter medications like Ibuprofen.

Am I a Candidate For Full Mouth Rehabilitation?

You may be a candidate if you have one or more of these symptoms:

  • TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder)
  • Frequent headaches or migraines
  • Unexplained loose teeth
  • Worn, chipped or cracked teeth
  • Pain or soreness around jaw joints
  • Pain in teeth that moves around
  • Facial, neck, shoulder and/or back pain
  • Clicking or grating sounds in jaw joints
  • Limited jaw movement or locking jaw
  • Unexplained numbness in fingers and arms
  • Unexplained congestion or stuffiness in ears
  • Vertigo
