“I love my teeth and my smile. The work was done very softly and pleasant, and Dr. Gross and his team really cared and even worked on “odd” hours as I was a bit pushed for time leaving USA for Europe. Thank you Dr. Gross – Thank you Renee and the rest of the team – You are great!”

What is a porcelain crown?
The tooth’s crown is the portion covered by enamel. A porcelain crown replaces the natural tooth’s crown if it becomes chipped, misaligned or otherwise damaged. Crowns used to be made with some metal for strength. The traditional crowns with metal can show are dark, unattractive shadow at the gumline. Today, crowns are all porcelain, for a more esthetic and natural appearance.
Why do I need a porcelain crown?
Porcelain crowns correct chipped, misaligned, broken or damaged teeth and protect the remaining portion of your tooth. Your SmilePerfect dentist may recommend dental crowns for many reasons, including:
Why is the crown made of porcelain?
Today, individuals seeking cosmetic dentistry want a natural look that is undetectable to others. Aesthetically, porcelain is the best choice for a natural look and feel.
What is the difference between the three types of crowns?
Gold crowns are the strongest and the simplest to install. Unfortunately, they are not as aesthetically pleasing as porcelain crowns. For most people, this is a serious cosmetic drawback, and the reason why gold crowns are usually used only on the back teeth. Less of the existing tooth must be removed for a gold crown.
Porcelain and resin crowns are, by far the most natural-looking crowns available, often indistinguishable from real teeth. They are harder to fit into the gum line, and the porcelain is more susceptible to chipping, however a trained cosmetic dentist will be able to complete this procedure easily and teach you how to care for your crowns. Relatively more of the existing tooth is removed for a porcelain crown but a dazzling smile is the result.
Porcelain fused-to-metal crowns have a natural appearance and are less susceptible to damage than strictly porcelain crowns, but a darker, metal line may become more visible around the gum line as the gums recede with age.
How is the procedure done?
Your SmilePerfect dentist removes the damaged tooth portion. Sometimes a post is added to help support the crown, if there is not enough of the original tooth left to anchor it. An impression is made of the affected area and the surrounding teeth, so the crown will specifically fit in place of your natural tooth.
Will people notice my crown when I smile?
Porcelain crowns are completely natural looking and virtually undetectable to others. You can laugh, eat, talk, chew and enjoy life with your beautiful smile, confident that the only thing people notice is you.
