Pain and muscle tension in the jaw occurs in nine out of every ten people. This is because, for most of the population, the lower jaw is not in its optimal position. For most of those with misaligned jaws, seeing a neuromuscular dentist will help. These mouth guards have been developed as an aid to help athletes reach their peak, no matter what their sport is. The PPM™ is developed to fit your upper teeth, while the Edge™ fits your lower teeth.
By returning your jaw to its optimal position when PPM™ or the Edge™ is worn, the muscles are no longer stressed, which gives you an improved bite, as well as better balance, flexibility and increased upper body strength. Science of PPM/Edge
When there are problems with the alignment of the jaw, teeth, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ), symptoms such as headaches, neck and shoulder pain, jaw pain, clicking or popping of the jaw, and ringing in the ears (tinnitus) can occur. And due to the strain put on the face muscles and TMJ, your neck and shoulder muscles are affected. This, in turn, affects posture and saps energy needed athletes need to compete. Neuromuscular dentistry looks at this body alignment and searches for ways to get these parts of your body back to their proper position. Proper alignment means that your muscles and spine are more relaxed.

They are able to determine your best possible jaw position through a computerized jaw tracking system and TENS machine. The TENS machine is used to help relax your muscles and put them in their most comfortable position.
During your evaluation the dentists at SmilePerfect will take impressions of your lower and upper teeth, and record your optimal bite position during your first appointment. Your PPM/Edge™ will take about a week to be made in a lab, and during your second visit, you will be fitted with your brand new custom made mouth guard.
