“I love my teeth and my smile. The work was done very softly and pleasant, and Dr. Gross and his team really cared and even worked on “odd” hours as I was a bit pushed for time leaving USA for Europe. Thank you Dr. Gross – Thank you Renee and the rest of the team – You are great!”

Pain and muscle tension in the jaw occurs in nine out of every ten people. This is because, for most of the population, the lower jaw is not in its optimal position. For most of those with misaligned jaws, seeing a neuromuscular dentist will help. However, what has recently been discovered is that the same principles used in neuromuscular dentistry can benefit athletes through the use of the Pure Power Mouthguard™ (PPM) and Pure Power Edge™. These mouth guards have been developed as an aid to help athletes reach their peak, no matter what their sport is. The PPM™ is developed to fit your upper teeth, while the Edge™ fits your lower teeth.
By returning your jaw to its optimal position when PPM™ or the Edge™ is worn, the muscles are no longer stressed, which gives you an improved bite, as well as better balance, flexibility and increased upper body strength. These are all important areas athletes need to have in peak condition to compete at their best.
Though PPM™ and the Edge™ are set apart from other mouth guards because of the neuromuscular application that went into their creation, one specific type of athlete was not kept in mind in the development. This is because all athletes will benefit from the use of PPM™ or the Edge™. The PPM™ is worn for protection, as well as bite optimization, and is worn by athletes in contact sports, such as hockey, football and soccer. The Edge™ is worn by athletes in non-contact sports, such as baseball, swimming, running, fitness training and more. All athletes have found their agility, balance, and strength increase while wearing these mouth guards.
When there are problems with the alignment of the jaw, teeth, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ), symptoms such as headaches, neck and shoulder pain, jaw pain, clicking or popping of the jaw, and ringing in the ears (tinnitus) can occur. And due to the strain put on the face muscles and TMJ, your neck and shoulder muscles are affected. This, in turn, affects posture and saps energy needed athletes need to compete. Neuromuscular dentistry looks at this body alignment and searches for ways to get these parts of your body back to their proper position. Proper alignment means that your muscles and spine are more relaxed.
The dentists at SmilePerfect are neuromuscular dentists who are also certified to fit your PPM/Edge™ mouth guard. They are able to determine your best possible jaw position through a computerized jaw tracking system and TENS machine. The TENS machine is used to help relax your muscles and put them in their most comfortable position.
During your evaluation the dentists at SmilePerfect will take impressions of your lower and upper teeth, and record your optimal bite position during your first appointment. Your PPM/Edge™ will take about a week to be made in a lab, and during your second visit, you will be fitted with your brand new custom made mouth guard.
